Do a Jacket & Tank
DO think about using thin layers of plus size clothing to help
slim your overall body shape and show your womanly curves!
For example, layering a long fitted tank top under a jacket or
blazer is a great way to not get lost in your jacket and look bulky.
Tanks are great not only for under jackets but you can also layer tank
tops of different colors and lengths under each other for a more
exciting and increasingly slimming upper body look!
We recommend
Catherines for this item.
Do Layer with a Cardigan
DO try to minimize a larger chest area with layered camisoles and
cardigan sweaters. While some fuller figure women prefer to show off their
large chest, this is a tip for those who prefer to minimize or cover-up the area. We recommend
Lanebryant for this item.
Do a Body Shaper to Smooth Curves
DO think about using adorable body shaping items layered under your
clothing to help you hide any unsightly areas of bulge.
Body shapers can be purchased in many different varieties including bodysuits,
panty shapers, tank top styles, pant styles and short styles. Of course, these
layers will likely go unseen but they can help your overall look be just as
flattering as the visible layers you utilize. We recommend
Just My Size for this item.
Do a Cami & Button Down
DO wear sleeveless fitted shirts under button down shirts for
extra breathing room. It can be difficult to find a button down shirt
you can properly button, so if you have this problem you can easily fix
it by wearing something under the button down shirt and simply leaving
some of the buttons undone! We recommend
One Stop Plus for this item.
Do Pay Attention to Lengths
DO make your waist area look smaller by letting your undershirt
layer hit right at mid-waist. Then you can wear a shorter shirt,
sweater or jacket on top of it and enjoy the visual slimming effect you created.
Be sure the under layer is fitted and not too flowing or you may end up reversing the
effect of the layer and looking as if you weigh ten pounds more. When you wear a fitted shirt
under a jacket, sweater or another shirt, you visually take pounds off of your upper body. We recommend
Jessica London for this item.
Do Some Accessories
DO detract attention from your lower half and draw it to
your neck and face area by using apparel accessories like a
colorful scarf. Outerwear is a great way for you to dress up
your outfit and draw attention to your beautiful complexion,
without looking overdone. However, be sure not to overdo outerwear for
fashion purposes. If it’s snowy and cold, by all means bundle up. But,
if you’re using outerwear for accessory purposes only, stick to a single
scarf or a cute hat but not both. We recommend
Lanebryant for this item.
DON'T use thick clothing for layering effects, as it
will only make you look like a linebacker with wide shoulders
instead of slimming you, as it should. Remember to choose thin
layering garments when trying the layering trick. Using a thick
corded sweater under a puffy jacket will do nothing but make you
look like heavier than you are in reality and we all know that’s
not any woman’s goal in fashion.
DON’T go overboard with the layering. Typically, two
layers are plenty and more than two is just overkill. The
thinner the layers, the more leeway you have with this rule,
however. But, in general, when putting together your outfit,
remember to limit yourself to two layers per area. Otherwise you
will not get the slimming effect you’re after.
